First Dental Visit Our goal at the first dental visit is to familiarize your child with our office and dental team, while providing a positive experience to build on. This first visit will begin with a review of your child's medical and dental history, followed by an oral examination which includes "counting his/her teeth." With your child's cooperation, a dental cleaning, topical fluoride application, and digital x-rays may also be performed. We will also discuss any findings, treatment recommendations, oral hygiene techniques, diet, and our future expectations for you and your child to promote optimal oral health. This is also the time that we encourage you to share with us your concerns and questions. In return, we ask that in preparation for this initial visit you refrain from using certain words that might cause unnecessary fear for you child, such as "shot," "needle," "hurt," or "drill." You as a parent play an important role in not only making your child's first dental visit positve and enjoyable, but an educational and comfortable experience for the both of you.
